Did anyone get a doula?

I’m considering getting a doula but haven’t decided yet. I have gestational diabetes so may have to get csection and won’t have a chance to labor naturally...but if I do get the chance it would be nice to have a support person besides the hubby who would be there the whole labor. What factors went into your decision?

I am considering it! This will be my 2nd birth and I have low platelets this pregnancy so I may not be able to have an epidural and because of that I want someone to help guide me through pain management techniques in the moment. My husband isn’t a birth expert and he really hates to see me in pain so he would advocate for main meds, which I want to stay away from with this pregnancy.

I scheduled one! It’s provided through my hospital. I went back and forth on the decision because I didn’t want too many people in the delivery room since i will also have my husband and mom. I ultimately decided yes because I feel that she will help me have the confidence to labor without meds and help with pain management techniques and position. I think she will also help my husband learn what to do during future births. I’m actually excited about it now .

I hired one! She’s $800 and I’m using FSA to pay. I didn’t have one with my first, only had my very sweet, very unfamiliar-with-labor husband around for 18 hours unmedicated labor....sooo I’m not doing that again! He had zero clue how to help me and I was not in my right mind to know what to ask for. I feel confident about having a doula this time because it’s a big job. 
Also, my friend used a doula for her c-section and it was a huge help! That’s also a time where there’s a lot of unknowns and you could benefit from the help they provide before and after.
