Waitlist for housing

About to submit our application for base housing and was wondering how long some of you have waited? I know it changes per base/location but we’re still interested. My husband has been stationed at the same base for 5 years and since having 2 kids we have now out grown our off base 2 bedroom apartment. Buying/Renting here in Virginia is expensive so we’ve decided to apply for base housing. We’re looking into moving next June/July once our roomate gets out of the military so that gives us about 6-7 months before we need it. Also, how was the process of getting into a house? Simple? Difficult? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
