first gyno visit?

hey ladies! im 15 and i read online that youre supposed to go to the gynecologist between 13 and 15, but i havent been yet. my mom thinks you're supposed to go when youre sexually active, can someone clarify when my first visit is supposed to be? how do i ask my mom without being awkward? also, does sexually active mean that you had sex or can it be stuff like fingering?

it is true you need to go when you are sexually active, but it can be really helpful even before. When I went for my first visit I wasn't sexually active but had problems with my period and found out I had an ovarian cyst and the gynecologist prescribed me the pill.

I didn't go to a gyno until I got pregnant the first time at 20. But it definitely doesn't hurt to be proactive about self care. I visited my primary for issues with my period at 14 and got on birth control to help and it did. It was a couple more years before I became sexually active. If you are wanting birth control you can visit your regular dr. And they can prescribe it also. Don't be afraid to talk to your mom.
