Where to put carseat in minivan?

Getting a Kia minivan and I’m not sure where to put my 13 month old ? I feel like the back is super far. He is very fussy in the car and being able to reach back and hand him food/toys would be nice. I can’t give him a cup of snacks because he’d shove it all in his mouth at once or throw it 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I slowly hand it to him in the Chevy I have now.. but there’s no center seat in the second row so I’m not sure what to do. I know the center is safest, but I won’t be able to reach or see him being that far back in the third row?

Center row center seat is safest. If no center row, second row center seat. If no center seat, center row or second row and I would do behind passenger just personal preference but either is fine when no center seat.

I put my daughter behind my seat. In a van, it’s not against the law here. I asked a cop. My older two sit in the 3rd row.

We have a Kia Sedona and my daughter is behind the driver seat (because the rear a/c controls are on the passenger side.). She’s still rear facing and it’s quite the stretch to get anything to her. Forward facing she’d be even further away. So it’s very possible you won’t be able to reach either way. 
When the baby comes her seat is going on the passenger side. Eventually my 2.5 year old will go in the very back but not until she can do all her buckles.

I would not put him in the third row. Just put him in the passenger side or driver side. We have the captain chairs in our suburban and my son sits behind the passanger. That way when I'm driving I can see him perfectly, and if needed while stopped I can easily hand him something.

I think you can actually but a seat you can insert into the middle of a van in the second row but I'm not 100% sure.. but if so it's probably a lot of money.. I personally would put the baby in the seat behind whichever seat I'm in, driver seat if I'm driving, passenger if someone else is driving. But if you want to be able to glance back and see your baby, put the baby in the seat behind the opposite seat of what you're sitting it.

When we had a van we put our daughter in the second row on the passenger side only because my husband almost always drove and I was always the one to get her out of the vehicle. There was no way I would have been able to reach her from the front on either side, so we just went with what made the most sense for our situation.
