Do you consider 5 foot 5 and 139 pounds overweight?

Question

I was looking at my chart at my fertility clinic, and it said 23 was my bmi. I've never had a weight problem in my life, and I definitely appear slim. But I looked up a bmi of 23, and it is classified as overweight😭. My husband says that I look underweight and should eat more, to help chances of conception. The 139 pounds was with all my clothes on, though... it is just depressing that I am considered overweight.

Bmi is kind of rubbish. It doesn't even take muscle or water weight into consideration 🤷 also... You can be overweight and still healthy... In fact in more cases than you realize overweight people were far healthier than people who were weight appropriate and way healthier than those who were underweight.. so I'd just take that BMI with a grain of salt.

BMI is so outdated pay absolutely no attention to it what so ever. It doesn’t account for lean tissue or muscle mass that you may have. 
I am (was prior to pregnancy-8months at this point) 5’5 and 150# but with a body fat percentage of 22% avid CrossFitter and power lifter. Doc told me I was boarder line according to the BMI chart and I got a new doc. 
Long story short, if you have muscle mass your BMI is going to be off. Don’t stress girl!

Hun. Seriously. If you don’t LOOK overweight. Then you are not overweight. That chart is a guideline. Not a rule. 
Muscle weighs more than fat so if you have more weight but are still slim, then it’s clearly muscle tone that is making up the weight. You don’t need to lose weight to have a baby if it’s muscle that’s making up your weight. 
You can go to an actual doctor to get all that tested to see if you are actually at a healthy weight or not.

BMI means nothing, weight means nothing. Muscle-fat is important. I am 190 currently (21 weeks pregnant), and BMI even pre-pregnancy had me overweight close to obese, but people I know and my doctors would not place me there

BMI is kind of a joke. It doesn’t take I to account muscle tone. My doctor doesn’t usually pay attention to BMI because it’s not very accurate.

BMI 23 is in the normal healthy range where I work. I’m 5’4” and spent most of my 20s around 140 and no doctor ever said a word to me about being overweight or unhealthy in any way. And either way BMI isn’t really a good indicator of being overweight or obese, it doesn’t take muscle into account at all.

Don't let the BMI scale make you feel that way. It will tell 250 lb. short body builders that they're overweight or obese. It doesn't count for all sorts of other factors.
