2 day period??

Myself and oh have been ttc baby no.2 for 10 months now. Since coming off the pill my periods have taken a good while to regulate! Didn't bleed at all for 4 months. Anyway the last two months it seems things are getting back on track and I convinced myself this was going to be our month. I had every "early" symptom until af showed up Friday, started heavy and today Sunday it's disappeared. I tested two days before af was due and bfn. Is this still just my periods not regular yet or do take a test?
