Diapers?? Where to start?

FTM in need of advice... How do you suggest starting a stockpile? Do I get small amount of various brands or just pick a brand based on reviews and go for it? 
Any diaper or wipe brands you recommend or strategies for trying some out would be appreciated!

Don’t buy a whole lot unless you have a good return policy from where ever you get them... my son broke out into hives from ever pamper diaper and wipe we tried on him... at just a few hours old he had hives and rashes all over him. My son luckily took very well to the Walmart brand diapers and wipes 🤷🏼‍♀️

I went with pampers and haven’t had any issues. I use water wipes. I think there’s a chart somewhere online that shows a good amount of each size to buy for baby.

I would pick a brand based on what people say about them. Ask any moms you know! I settled on Huggies, and I really love them.

I have a stockpile. I bought just a few newborn packs and more of size 1. Huggies lil  snugglers have been my favorite. With honest co wipes. But I didn't like honest diapers.

It makes much more sense to set aside money on gift cards for diapers rather than buying and stocking up on them now. You have no idea what sizes your little one will need when they're born, how long they'll be in each size, what brands will work (or not work) for their skin or body type, etc. It makes no sense to buy a whole bunch of diapers only to have to go back and return them. And that's assuming they let you return them. A friend of mine had a nightmare of a time returning diapers to Walmart a few months ago. So I recommend buying as you go instead.

Stockpiling is tricky because all babies grow at such different rates, and others are sensitive to certain brands of diapers and wipes. My son couldn’t handle Huggies diapers because they gave him a rash, but other moms swear by them.  I think wipes are a little safer to stockpile, but even wipes can cause irritation and rashes on some babies. I think Waterwipes are the safest because they have the fewest ingredients, so that’s what we bought when my son was a newborn and for the first 6 months of his life. Now I prefer using Kirkland wipes because they grip the solids better, but they’re not as natural so I imagine some babies wouldn’t do very well with them. 
As far as diapers we were gifted a pack of Kirkland diapers, Andy Pandy, Pampers sensitive, and Huggies so I was lucky to be able to see what worked best for us. If you want to “stockpile” I think it’s a clever strategy to buy several small packs of a few different brands to test them all out because what works for some moms won’t work for you. Kirkland leaked for us, Huggies gave him a rash, Andy Pandy seemed rough and they were too big for his newborn bottom, so Pampers is what we used for the first few months and it’s also what they used in the hospital. Pampers Pure diapers are the softest diapers I’ve ever tried and they’re fragrance free for sensitive babies, so that’s what I’ll probably use for my next baby for the first couple of months. 
Once your baby starts solids at 6 months you’ll have to go through this whole decision process again as you try to find what holds in your baby’s solids the best, and once your baby starts crawling/walking it’s a whole other set of problems to find a diaper that doesn’t leak through the legs or soak through them at night. My son is 14 months and we’ve been using cloth diapers during the day for several months, but we have been using Bambo Nature disposables at night for the last 7 or 8 months because they’re natural, soft, and the most absorbent diapers I’ve ever used. They don’t fit as snuggly as Pampers, otherwise I’d totally recommend them for newborns.

I only used Huggies and Pampers diapers and wipes in the beginning. 
Now my boy is almost 15 months and we’ve discovered that he’s actually allergic to the pampers diapers.
So I’d just get a small packages in the beginning!

I wouldn’t stock pile, just because you don’t know how your baby will react to a certain brand or how many of one size your baby will use. Walmart will take diapers back but that’s just more of a hassle then buying as you go. But if you absolutely want to stock pile then I’d get a few different brands in newborn and 1 and try them out and see what works best and go from there
