32w3d left sided pain- help

I am 32 weeks and 3 days along now. For the last 2 days I have been having left sided pain that comes at random times, shoots across the bottom side of my abdomen and is sharp in nature. It leaves as quickly as it comes but it always takes me by surprise and takes my breath away. Anyone else experienced this? I don't want to call my doctor because their answer for literally everything is for me to go to labor and delivery. I was there last Monday for decreased fetal movements and pressure in my abdomen and got no where other than being told things like that were normal. I want to avoid going again if at all possible.
