Is it worth it to "invest" in your apartment?

I put "invest" in quotes because I need to explain. I would never buy something expensive for the apartment like new floors or new counters. However I have painted the walls in an apartment before. I couldn't stand the color so I painted. We had planned to stay there a couple years but only ended up staying one lease (12m) and then had to repaint it to the standards of the complex. (we only painted two walls as accent walls)

Some of my friends thought it was totally worth it and made a big difference

Others thought it was a waste of time and money. Now that we're moving into a new apartment, I kind of want to paint again.

What are your thoughts? Worth it or waste of money?
