I wish I could go visit my mom at her apartment sometimes, but I can't because my stepdad smokes.

I have severe asthma. I am on numerous medications to treat my asthma, and they do pretty well against most of the allergens that trigger my asthma. I can even handle a little smoke, but my stepdad is a freaking chain smoker. He smokes about 3-5 packs of cigarettes a day. They just moved into their apartment about two months ago, and my mom has it looking really nice, but the entire apartment smells of cigarette smoke. Their weenie dog suffers from allergies himself, and he is always wheezing. My mom is a smoker as well, but she only smokes 1-3 cigarettes a day, and his smoking is even bothering her. She says she can't stand it much longer. She has tried talking to him. He won't stop. He won't even try. He won't get help. He pretty much tells us to mind our business. He has said before that he thinks he has emphysema because most of the symptoms are there, but he's too scared to go to the doctor to find out even though we encourage him. He is on social security, so he rarely ever leaves the house. He knows I have asthma and it's affecting everybody, but he lights up his cigarettes all the time in their apartment and won't even go outside. I hate telling my mom I can't go over there anymore, but sometimes when I leave their apartment, I feel like I'm dying and gasping for air. My grandma also has asthma, and she can't stand being over there either. I feel bad because my mom is so excited to have this new apartment and wanted us to visit often, but I just can't, and it's all because of my step dad.
