What is let down?

I keep seeing people talk about let down. I’m exclusively pumping and have no idea what that means or if I’m getting it.

Let down is when your milk glands start releasing milk and it starts flowing.  Some women can feel their letdown and some can’t. For me, it’s actually really painful. 
 When you are pumping and you’re doing the super fast setting, you’re triggering letdown.  You know it happens when you start getting little drops of milk at the end of your nipples.

You may not know you are having a letdown as you can’t feel it. When I am breastfeeding it can be fairly painful, but when I am pumping I cannot feel it.
