asexual or shy?

Question

My boyfriend is autistic and when we started dating he said that he used to think he was asexual
In the year we’ve been dating, we’ve only had sex a few times but always when we’re drunk 
I’m not sure if he is actually asexual or if he’s scared to make a move when we’re sober because he’s very shy
I know that I need to talk to him about this but I’m not sure how to bring up the conversation

There are so many forms of asexuality, if he thinks he may be then he may be. I know in my personal experience my boyfriend is extremely shy, he’s always nervous to have sex because he thinks he won’t last long enough to pleasure me or that he will lose his erectikn before either of us finish. Because of this we do not have as much sex as I would like. But I chose to stay with him..

I’m on the spectrum as well and it’s relatively common for us to have a low interest in sex or be asexual. I’m generally not this way, but I would consider myself to be rather aromantic.

Talking about it is always the best route,  but getting someone else to be open to talking about it can be tough. 
Maybe you can start by asking him if he feels comfortable talking about sex together?
