Need advice

Took a digital pregnancy test a few days ago now and got a positive (1-2 weeks). The next day I started bleeding and was advised to go and speak to my dr - he said threatened miscarriage and if bleeding got worse to go to a&e, which ended up happening.

They took a urine test which came back negative, blood tests came back with a hcg level of 10. So I said that’s negative? And the dr said negative would be between 0-4 so why have you got a 10 that’s what he don’t understand. He suggested coming back tomorrow for a scan at the early pregnancy unit. But, I saw on my notes it said “ectopic?”

Now I’m really worried. I don’t have any pain apart from very very mild period like cramps on and off. Bleeding is like that of my normal period apart from a little bit more clotting (I often pass a few very very small clots on my heaviest day). With a hcg of 10 I don’t understand why they would think ectopic. Wouldn’t they have scanned me there and then instead of sending me home? If I didn’t do that pregnancy test I would assume this is a normal period.
