Breastfeeding classes ?

Have you taken them ? 
Do you feel like they helped ?
What could I expect from one if I took it ?
I just discovered these classes exist but so far haven’t found one near me to get more details.

Yes I took them and yes they helped. Honestly, I feel like the major reason why many moms aren’t successful with BF is because of lack of knowledge about the topic. The more you know going into it, the more likely you are to stick with it. That and also having access to resources (like lactation consultants).

I was very glad to have taken one. It gave me great info on how to start, common complications or obstacles and how to overcome them, info about support and tools, etc. also got me familiar with lactation consultants and just sort of mentally prepared me to breastfeed. I have no regrets about taking the class.

Yes, absolutely! Breastfeeding is just not as easy, intuitive and natural as it should be. It’s hard! A class will help you get a feel for what’s going right and what isn’t, if you need help, how to tell if baby is getting enough. It will give you tools you need to succeed!

I went to one but it turned out to be just an advertisement for la Leche league and breastfeeding in general. Like „it’s the best thing you should breastfeed!“ and I was like „I am planning to that’s why I’m here you don’t have to convince me...“
Also they claimed that almost every woman can breastfeed without any issues and when somebody asked what would happen if the milk doesn’t come or if it comes very late they were like „that rarely happens“. Guess what. I ended up exclusively pumping because baby doesn’t latch. Waste of time really.

I found it to be helpful for sure. There were a lot of good tips and strategies for getting a good latch and different positions. Also super helpful was info on what signs show that you have a good latch and just as important what signs show that the latch isn’t good so that you know to ask for help. Knowing what common problems could arise and having been told repeatedly to ASK FOR HELP from a lactation consultant if you have trouble made it a lot easier to problem solve both at the hospital and later with my pediatrician.

Best class ever! The moms I met gave saved me and my sanity. We still talk 4 months later. Totally worth it!

I took a few when I was pregnant. The counselors and nurses gave great advice and help but when my daughter was born she had problems latching and I didn’t force it. If you’re unsure about what to do though I would go and at least hear them out.
