Mixed Daughter Hair Advice
So I am mixed myself and I grew up with only my white side and I always hated my hair (probably because I was the only one with my type of hair)
My kids are mixed with half Mexican and the other half is me ( Black, French, Irish, and Native American)
So I really make a huge attempt to ensure my kids embrace all their ethnicities and what all comes with each one. Both my daughters have beautiful hair, my oldest has wavy/ curly hair and asked if she can straighten her hair; she is almost 9. I tell her all the time how beautiful her hair is. I grew up hating my hair so I try to make sure she knows hers is beautiful.
I straighten mine sometimes and I guess that’s why she wants hers too, but I know how much damage it does and I regret ever straightening mine back in 7th grade.
Since she is requesting it.... do you think I should let her have the one experience until she is older.... or tell her no not until she can make her own choices.
The reason I stress the choice is because I see so many mothers of mixed children straighten their daughters hair so young ( before they can truly make that choice) and that upsets me because I feel they make it harder for their daughters to accept and love their true hair.
