In-home Daycare Questions
We visited an in-home daycare today that was recommended to us by a coworker. Our son will be seven months when he starts there.
We talked about:
- cost (weekly, holidays, days we keep him home, days she has to close)
- number of kids in the home and ages
- his schedule and eating habits
- what happens if he gets sick
The home was extremely clean (and smelled amazing). The playroom he would be in was tidy and had nice looking toys. She has a bin for clothes, diapers, etc for each kid that we can keep there. She has a pack n play for each kid as well with blankets used by only one kid at a time and she washes them weekly. There’s a fenced in outdoor area with some outdoor toys (playhouse, small climbing gyms). She keeps both outside doors locked at all times. Her personality was high energy and welcoming.
Questions we thought of after we left:
- amount of screen time (we saw a tv in the playroom but we don’t give our son tv time)
- use of sign language and other developmental learning strategies
We’re likely going to go with her due to the reasonable cost, working with our summer schedule (we’re teachers), and no one else we called having openings.
Thoughts on what we are forgetting to ask though?
