Should classes be cancelled?

Recently there have been mass shooting threats at a local college. They wrote a letter saying 12-12-18 they will kill everyone in the school. This person/persons graffitied swastikas on the bathrooms and said “fuck Jews” and “fuck nig*ers” the school refuses to cancel classes. Students didn’t even get an email about the shooting threat. They got an email apologizing for the offensive graffiti. Students are obviously livid. How is removing graffiti going to make them feel safe? Also two women have been sexually assaulted on campus. Do you think classes should be cancelled? I can’t believe this school and their actions ..

It is college. You're an adult. You can choose if you want to go to class or not , you don't need the school board to give permission by cancelling classes. If you don't think it is safe take the day off, but I mean.. no serious criminal usually gives the police their plans beforehand.  I mean.. this all sounds like a prank to me because if they were serious they wouldn't give the cops a chance to stop them. Personally I wouldn't take it too seriously myself because obviously security will be heightend that day.. but if you don't wanna go, just don't go.

If classes were cancelled every time there was some type of threat - they would probably occur even more!

My classes weren’t cancelled when we had an active shooter on campus (he didn’t shoot but was carrying a loaded weapon and threatening). We were locked down for 30-60 mins while they located him then it was on with our regularly scheduled day. In high school my school received a bunch of threats one week, parents received a notice and had the option of keeping students home if they wished but school wasn’t closed.

Unless they proved it to be a hoax I’d say they should be canceled. We had a bunch of bomb threats in high school and they never canceled anything. Though a few days they allowed us to stay home if we felt we wanted to.
