Start of period spotting?

I’ve never spotted before my period before, normally I just wake up to full on blood. I’m on day 82 of my cycle, I’ve always had irregular periods so this isn’t any different, however this morning I woke up and was spotting a little bit and as the day went on it got slightly darker and I assumed it was my period, but then it started to get lighter now it’s completely stopped. So what I’m asking is can this be normal to have inconsistent spotting before my period starts?
