Can you feel when you ovulate?

I went to my doctor last month and we talked about a new pain on my left side lower ab area I have been getting this year. Like every 3 mos or so and recently 2 months in a row. He says its probably when you are ovulating, so he says thats good to know when u are trying to get pregnant. I was like uhh no doc because it hurts, so that sucks, sure dont wanna have sex that day. So hopefully I can catch it before the pain gets bad. Anyone else know when they are ovulating through pain?
