Bright in heart?

Just had my anatomy scan, currently 19w3d and baby boy is measuring 20w1d. They found a spot on his heart that they called a bright and that it could be an indication of down syndrome. My blood test came back normal but i do have family history of down syndrome. Anyone else in the same boat?

This happened to me with my first pregnancy, it is called an echogenic focus. It can be a marker for Down syndrome but if your blood test was negative that is much more accurate. When this happened to me, I went to a Maternal Fetal medicine specialist for a more in-depth ultrasound and fetal echocardiogram to endure everything was fine. The dr said, it used to be more of a marker for Down syndrome but now that the ultrasound technology is so good, they find that it is not as reliable of a indicator as they had once thought.

I second the above post! My son had a bright spot as well, went for in-depth ultrasounds and testing and it turned out to be nothing more then a glare. They say it’s common to happen in thinner women for some reason, but I wouldn’t stress, I have a perfectly healthy 6 year old boy!

We had our anatomy scan on Tuesday (the 11th) and they told us the same thing about the bright spot being an indicator of Down Syndrome.  The doctor did not seemed too concerned because all the other anatomy measurements were “normal.”
