Panhandling/ homeless torn

Sensitive subject I know !!!! I want to know what you guys think or feel when you have someone asking or begging for money when your parked at light ect I sometimes feel uncomfortable and I try to not to make eye contact but always do but at the same time I feel bad because I don’t know what there going through we all have our rough times I’m always torn idk what to do I just feel so uncomfortable not knowing where my money is going so what puts me at ease is I print out shelters around my area and give them with little inexpensive gift cards for a meal SOME refuse to take the gift card and just want cash then I refuse them my offer then it’s awkward again I like to give everyone a chance one might be drug dependent the next person might just be struggling bad I know it takes a lot of will power and strength to have to stand there for hours asking for help but I also don’t want to help fuel someone’s addiction I struggled as a single mom and have had no one to help me so I can understand why someone might do this a means to get bye so please tell me how you handle your panhandlers I think that’s what it’s called and maybe it would change the way I handle mine
