Would you find this a bit disappointing ?

So my bf and i are from different races, Arabic and British, I'm the Arabic one, and it's my first language. Sometimes I'd tell him how things are pronounced in Arabic or how do you say some things in Arabic but he shows 0 interests, sometimes it makes me sad because I know some Arabic women who got foreign boyfriends and they say they either learnt their language for them or they always ask them to talk in Arabic (the boyfriends) and for me my boyfriend never said that although we know each for 2 years and 8 months... Sometimes it makes me sad that he doesn't say anything when i speak in Arabic, so if you were in position do you think you'd be kinda sad too or I'm just sensitive ?

I don’t think you’re too sensitive. That’s part of your culture ! No he doesn’t have to learn Arabic but the fact he shows no interest would disappoint me. I’m American and my SO is French and we teach each other cultural and linguistic things all the time. He made me a Thanksgiving dinner once 😂 since I’m so far from home, I’d be disappointed if he took zero interest

I’m Lebanese, my husband is Spaniard decent. He doesn’t know anything about Arabic and I know nothing about Spanish. We both speak perfect English as we were both born and raised in the states. It is what it is and it doesn’t bother me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yea I think you’re being too sensitive. I get it that you might want to speak in your first language with your bf or teach him something and being cute and all but sometimes people aren’t too eager to learn other languages or Arabic and that’s okay.

You’re too sensitive, if you want to be with someone who speaks Arabic or is interested in learning it you’re with the wrong guy. He doesn’t stop you from speaking Arabic or is disrespectful at least you didn’t mention it in this post so what that he doesn’t want to learn to speak it?

My man speaks Arabic. To me it’s a really hard language to learn. I only remember a few words. He doesn’t try to teach me words often though, he personally doesn’t care much about that. I am the one who tries to get him to teach me sometimes, not the other way around. But like I said, for me it is difficult. It would be beneficial in order to talk to his family better though, but they speak English as well so it’s not a huge problem. As for your boyfriend, maybe he sees no benefit? Or he feels it is too hard? If it means a lot to you, let him know. But don’t compare your relationship to others, this doesn’t mean he’s being a jerk.
