Should mental health be taught more in schools?

𝑔𝒶

When I was in high school, I was luckily able to take psychology. In the whole year, we were only taught about mental health and different kind of mental illnesses for about 1/4th of the class. The thing is, the class was very selective and only open to AP students. So many kids didn’t even get to learn the small amount we did about mental health.

Getting to learn what we did, gave me a lot of understanding not only about myself but others. It really let me understand and sympathize for those going through mental illness.

I think that if schools even taught basic mental health as a lesson in a health class, it would really help for people to have a less negative association with mental health and hopefully understand a bit more what others go through. I think a lot of people are uneducated on mental health and how it works.

So what do you think?

(I’m sorry if this is a bit of a ramble and if any of it doesn’t make sense let me know. I thought of this right before falling asleep.)
