Sick of the negativity

My husband hates his job. He comes home every night in a terrible mood. I work full time as well but I’m usually home before him so knowing that he’ll be in a bad mood I do my best to cheer him up as he comes through the door. I greet him with a smile and a hug and I have dinner made and I’m ready to listen if he wants to talk. Most of the time he doesn’t want to eat and just goes upstairs alone to blow off some steam playing video games, watching tv, etc.

Last night he came home in such a bad mood from work that when I went in for my welcome home hug he said “I’m just not in the mood” and brushed me off. (Not in the mood to hug your wife after a days work??) He could tell it upset me and apologized but I’m sick of it. His negatively is starting to affect me as well.

Same thing happened last year with his old job. I told him that if he hates his job so much, get a new one. So he did, but now he hates this one even more. Mind you he works a high level job making 6 figures, so just going out and changing jobs whenever you feel like it is not easy.

Not sure how to approach things as I don’t want to add to his stress but I feel like it needs to stop. Should I just continue to be cheerful and supportive and hope he works it out?
