Monolingual dating Bilingual 🧐

Is there anyone else here that’s dating a bilingual SO but you’re only fluent in English?

Do you end up trying to learn your SO’s language?

My boyfriend is Laotian and I was at his family’s house yesterday and they were all speaking Laos and my boyfriend was trying to translate for me, I felt out of place because I knew absolutely nothing.

I do have a couple Lao language apps on my phone but it’s such a hard language to learn, the only way you can speak it fluently is if you were born into a family that spoke it😭😭
