What week do you stop vaginal ultrasounds ? At your first appointment do you get to hear the heartbeat? Do they give you the ultrasound pictures or do you have to ask/pay for them?

Having my first ultrasound at 9 weeks 5 days and just wondering how it will go, will I get to hear the babies heartbeat or just see it on ultrasound? Are they going to do a normal ultrasound or vaginal? Will they give me the pictures or do I need to ask for them? Will I be paying for them?

I never had a vaginal ultrasound. I had an abdominal ultrasound at exactly 7 weeks. I was also able to SEE the heartbeat at that time. At my 10 week appointment, I heard baby’s heartbeat on a Doppler, but it did take the doctor a little bit to find it.

I had one vaginal at 7 weeks and that was it for that. I didn’t hear babies heartbeat because it wasn’t strong enough but I saw the little flicker on the screen and he (the US tech) measured it. To my understanding they will just give you the pictures. I asked but by the time I asked he had already printed them and was giving them to me. They keep pictures in their records on the computer so they don’t need to keep printed copies that’s only for you to take.

I had a normal ultrasound at 8 weeks and we could see the heart beat. We got pictures from that one. At 12 weeks I just had the fetal doppler which is when we first heard the heart beat.

my last one was at 7weeks 5 days, and my next appointment was an abdominal ultrasound at 11 weeks 4 days, and they did just a doppler for my 14 week appointment like the other commenter mentioned. i was so bummed i didn’t get an ultrasound that time lol

At 8 weeks I had a transvaginal ultrasound. We couldn’t hear the heartbeat but we could see it on the monitor. At 12 weeks I didn’t have an US, just a Doppler which is for hearing the heartbeat.

I think they stop around 9/10 with vaginal. As for pictures, depends on the practice. We got some from our dating scan and during the anatomy scans they just emailed to us.
