Period Inconsistency

So normally I have a pretty regular period. It comes at the end of each month, and lasts only 3 days. This month however, I thought I had a pregnancy scare bc I was late. Then, I got my period but it was more of a spotting which I’ve never experienced. Then the next day, I didn’t have any bleeding. The third day I had medium bleeding, and now today I don’t have any. My bleeding has skipped days now, and idk if this is normal, could be something with my birth control, or if I should take a pregnancy test just to be safe. Help!!
