Organ donation

So after seeing a post about this in cc I, a relatively new convert, would like to hear your opinions and learn how organ donation is viewed in islam.

From one point, it is my understanding that when a Muslim dies it is important that as much of the body as possible is dealt with, however on the other hand I view organ donation as saving possibly multiple lives and a very beautiful gift of life.

Please let me know your thoughts, and if anyone has any references from the quran or anything similar I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to gain knowledge about this :)
