The risk with unheated deli meat is listeriosis. Unlike other food-borne illnesses, it is SERIOUSLY BAD NEWS for pregnant women.  
You about 20 times more likely to get listeriosis while pregnant. And while non-pregnant people might contract it and have no real symptoms, a pregnant woman with listeriosis risks preterm labor, stillbirth, or severe birth defects. 
I AM NOT PULLING THIS OUT OF MY BUTT. ALL OF THIS IS EASY TO GOOGLE FROM ESTABLISHED MEDICAL RESOURCES.

I love deli meat and no way would I eat it without heating it, queso fresco, or any of the other things known to have had listeriosis outbreaks. I’m even careful about raw vegetables. You might call this living in a bubble.  And yes the risks are very low, but someone out there is going to get very unlucky, and it might be me. So I call it making sure I don’t have to live with the feeling I lost my baby because of something I did. That is how I would feel, and it is not a feeling I could deal with.

My dr has been practising for a looong time and she believes that if you avoid every single thing that maaaaay result in something negative during pregnancy you would have to live in a bubble.
Your chances of getting a food borne illness from deli meat while pregnant is the same as when you are not. However dehydration would be stressful on the baby. My SIL got food poisoning and ended up in the hospital on an IV and she was fine, baby was fine. 
I wouldn’t go eating it from questionable places or eating it after 3-4 days in the fridge to be safe but you can for sure have some.

While I have cut back a little on my caffeine intake, I’m not one to fear everything I eat or drink during these 9 months. If I get a craving for Jimmy Johns I’m going to indulge for sure. 🤣 I think here and there isn’t bad.

I don’t avoid it but I never was a big cold meat eater before but I will eat it in moderation.

They say to heat it. But i never have and. All 6 of my beautiful children were born happyand healthy and 2 out of 3 of my children in school are in gifted. Somethings they are finding out are not necessary like keeping peanut butter and thing away from small children because it can cause allergies. Now they say introduce it to them at 6 month to prevent food allergies. Eat it how you want mama

I see no problem eating cold cuts, but as we did IVF and it costs as much as a new car, I’m not risking anything and heating the crap out of my deli meat.

I can go to jersey mikes and get the meat cooked. I avoid bean sprouts and lemongrass. Quitting caffeine was shockingly easy.

I am only because I hate cold cuts in the first place! We can’t avoid absolutely everything and live in fear of everything we put in our mouth, that’s no way to live, even for 9mos! Obviously you’ve gotta use your head and common sense but don’t drive yourself nuts!
