My dad called my husband a piece of shit father because he had a guys night for the first time in months and had a few drinks.

That doesn't give us much other info. One could be a horrible father and stay home all the time. But he could be an amazing father which I'm sure he is so your dad was way out of line.

Your dad just wants the best for you because you are his little princess. How he phrased his thought seems wrong as he is saying it about your husband who is now part of your life and family too. This doesn’t mean that you should be against him. Your statement however is not fully detailed. What you asked depends on many things. My father is always bold like that with his words and I got used to it. I know now every time something similar happens, it is always for my own good that it happens and I learned to respect him and bring him with my flow when I want something. He is my dad after all and I would never go against the man who has spent and spends his years, energy and money to provide me with the best possible, even if I know he is wrong. I’d rather remain silent and support my belief to myself. I’d advise you to take nobody’s side. Remain neutral so that this eventually fades away.

There’s gotta be more that your father has observed and he’s got more reason than one single incident for saying your husband is a piece of shit father.  Talk to your dad. I’ll bet 💵 that it’s more than just one thing causing him to feel this way about your dh.
