I've been seeing a few post with people saying they are 20% effaced just wondering exactly what that means. Also I would like to know when I should lose my mucus plug I'm 37 weeks and haven't lost it

Effacement is how thinned out your cervix is. You could lose your mucus plug anytime or never at all. Not everyone loses it.

Effacement is the reduction in the thickness of the cervix. For most of pregnancy, it should be about 3-4cm thick. Thinning of the cervix is normal in late pregnancy and necessary before birth.
Some women have thinning begin too early in pregnancy and need medical treatment to prevent preterm birth. That condition is called cervical insufficiency, and the most common treatment is a cerclage (stitching the cervix closed). Other treatments exist, such as a cervical pessary (a diaphragm-like plastic device that holds the cervix closed without surgery).
