It took a long time. We both knew we were madly in love. We had a solid relationship. We talked about our future all the time. But then there was a very sad diagnosis of a rare nerve condition 3 years into our relationship. I had two rough surgeries and had to learn to walk again. I had to live in a nursing home. Everyday he would come even though he worked 12 shifts at night. He and I just missed our normal boring life together. We were inseparable. We knew then what ever may be we knew we couldn't be without each other. We got married last year and not a dry eye at the wedding when I was able to walk down the isle. I think you love someone but soul mates are built over time and when the rough times hit. We can honestly say our happiest and saddest times in our lives have brought us closer.

I never wanted to get married, my ex scarred me for life when he proposed when I was 21 and I told my current boyfriend never to propose to me because I’d say no it just wasn’t something I wanted. I bought a house with him and I’d have a child with him in a second but I was terrified of marriage. We’ve been together almost 6 years and we had a massive breakdown and as I thought I was loosing him I had a realisation... how could I not want to marry this man?! I realised that getting married wasn’t the worst thing - loosing him was. Took almost the end of our relationship for us to realise all we needed to be happy was each other.. long story short a few months later he proposed and we get married in 86 days!

I think it’s more about being able to communicate with each other and being comfortable talking about your future together than some magical feeling that makes you just know. You can’t just know things. Knowing that a relationship is actually going somewhere and that you’re on the same page takes work. Have you guys talked about marriage as a potential thing in the future?
