Toenail almost came all the way off. Please help.

Ok so I stubbed my great toe on the kitchen cabinet pretty hard earlier and my nail wasn't bleeding but it was almost completely off! I read online that I could clip all the way down to where it doesn't come up easily then put antibiotic ointment on it and wrap it with gauze and in a few days I can take the rest of it off so a new nailbed will grow in. I did that. But now it is hurting and throbbing really badly. It's possible that toe was already infected due to a bad pedicure.. Should I see a doctor or wait it out? I feel so stupid..
