Promise ring

My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years now. I’m 18 and he is 19 I’ve had a crush on him since i was like three and we’ve always known each other. This Christmas he gave me a cute scrap book he made and the last page he did said ‘I promise to finish the rest of this with you’ with a ring tapped inside. I was so happy and everyone in my family keeps saying stuff about it/us and whispering behind my back. I don’t know what to do.
