I just had my first appointment with a new OB and she revealed, after asking me if I drink, use drugs or smoke cigarettes, that she already knew the answers because she used my urine sample - which was used to confirm my pregnancy - to test me for substances. I have NEVER heard of a doctor doing this, especially without consent. She also asked for an additional sample to send for a UA, to analyze my urine for substances and alcohol.

My first OB never did that, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I almost feel violated but at the same time, if I were using, it would be valuable information for a medical care provider.
