I messed up. I’m so upset

Elizabeth

My husband got me a promise ring for our first anniversary when we were dating. Shortly after the warranty expired, one of the diamonds popped out. It took a long time, but I eventually found it. We were in no rush to fix it, since the warranty was expired, so I put it in a baggie and stuck it in my ring box.

Fast forward 3 years and my husband says we should finally get around to fixing it. We took in only the ring, got a quote, and were told that if I still had the diamond, they could give us a cheaper quote. So when I got home, I put the baggie in my wallet. Now, the diamond is tiny. It was one of 8 in my promise ring. But I kept it for three years.

2 days ago (about 3 months after the original quote) I was sorting through coupons in my wallet and decided to clean it. I threw away an “empty” ziploc baggie.

I realized this morning that it wasn’t empty.

The trash was picked up yesterday.

It wasn’t a terribly expensive diamond (it was tiny) but I’m so upset with myself for making such a dumb mistake
