losing virginity LOT OF PAIN

so i’m 18, and just recently tried having sex with my boyfriend. i was a virgin and he was not. he put it in and it immediately hurt SO bad. i made him stop after a few pushes, and ran to the bathroom right after and there was a lot of blood. the day after i started my period. do you think it hurt because i was about to start my period? orrrr? we’re both scared to try again.
