When do you start burping your baby?

First time mom...do I need to burp my baby after I have her in the hospital? Or do we start days after she's born at home?

I breastfed my daughter and am now breastfeeding my week-old son, and both of them have rarely burped after feeds. Breastfed babies don’t swallow as much air as bottle-fed babies. If you’re bottle feeding then I would say yes, burp from day one. I still do put my son up on my shoulder and rub his back a bit after feedings but I would say he’s probably burped twice since I’ve had him, and it was the same for my first.

After every single feeding. The nurses helped burp my son while we were in the hospital though.

I do after every feed, my little one is nursing. She has Tracheomalacia, so sometimes she sucks down air and she has to be burped or she will spit everything up.

Our boy is breastfed and never needs burped. He does it on his own roughly 20 minutes following a feeding if he swallowed enough air to but if not, he’s all good.

I’d do it after every feed, but apparently breast fed babies don’t necessarily need burping, I found my first burped a lot less when I was breast feeding her, but I still tried after every feed anyway just in case
