Breastfeeding Laws???

I'm expecting in April and just found out that salaried employees do not have a right to lactation space or breaks during the workday. Now freaking out. How am I going to feed my baby? Have any of you dealt with this? Were you able to pump at work anyway?

I wasn’t aware that status of pay excludes anyone from protection of milk expression laws. Whether it’s true or not, if you work with reasonable people, you should simply inform them of your breastfeeding goals and they should be able to accommodate you. If your workplace is unwilling to cooperate, you should absolutely petition this policy and bring it to the attention of your local legislators. The only reason I’m able to breastfeed in public in my state without getting a ticket for public nudity is because a group of upset moms changed the law a few years ago.

While the federal law doesn’t require it, your state laws might. So definitely check on that!

I was very fortunate as it only took me 10 min to pump  4-5oz. I had to clock out to pump, but I talked to my manager and had an agreement that I could clock out for 3 separate 15min breaks in lieu of a lunch break. Talk to your manager and see what they can do to work with you.
