Cold medicine/remedies for toddlers?

Question

My son has bad congestion high up in his nose and a cough. I'm not big on medicines, mostly because I don't think they work. But I'd do anything to help him sleep. Any recommendations?

Zarbees brand Cough+Mucus helped my son. Then just using the nose frida to get all the snot out as well. I usually use boogie wipes too so his nose doesn’t get irritated. They have saline in the wipes so it helps.

Zarbees right now is under fire for metal shards being found in their medicines, I’d avoid those. 
We use hylands, or mothers bliss per our peds recommendations. If it really bad we use Benadryl.

Recently we struggled with a wicked cold in our house. The only thing that worked for my toddlers cough was the little remedies Honey cough syrup. It made such a difference for him. We also used hylands cold and mucus. I kept up on the pain meds too, they are just so young they can’t tell you when their throat hurts and what not. Then at night we used mommy’s bliss night time honey cough. It was a blessing! Made all the difference in the world. He is old enough too that we added a pillow to his crib just for the time during the cold and watched him very carefully, but being propped up eliminated the need to sleep on my husband or I the entire night.

We did vicks in a humidifier it helps a lot when their in bed with the door shut
