A1c of 5.7

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and my obgyn said my a1c is 5.7. She said a 5.7 a1c means I was diabetic prior to my pregnancy and must not have known. She has me checking my blood sugars 4 times a day, each day. However, my sugars are always great after meals. For the health of myself and my baby, I completely agree to check my sugar to be sure. However, I've read that a a1c of 5.7 is pre-diabetic and you're not considered type 2 until a a1c of over 6.0, I believe. Is a a1c of 5.7 type 2 diabetic?
