2 yr old suddenly needing me to sit with her until she falls asleep?

We just had our second daughter 2 weeks ago so I know this is an adjustment for everyone including my 2 year old. She has always been an amazing sleeper; loves her naps and goes right down at bedtime after her bath and story. But the past couple nights when I put her in her crib she gets really scared and says “sit there” while pointing to the couch in her room. I have been sitting with her because if I leave she screams “mama” at the top of her lungs, bawling her eyes out until I come back. It’s breaking my heart but I can’t sleep with her every night - I have a newborn who needs me too. Any advice Mama’s?

Don’t start the habit! The longer you do it the harder it is to stop. You’ll have to sleep train her again.

Similar situation except my new baby isnt due until July but my 2y has been a great sleeper since he stopped breastfeeding. He has always been the one that gets mad if we dont put him to bed on time! Last night, he just wouldnt stay in bed, (hes in a toddler bed) i had to go back in there a total of 5 times to keep putting him back in bed because he was getting up and crying and would be sitting by the door screaming for us. 
I simply went in there everything time and i talked to him for a few minutes and hugged him and kissed him and then put him back in bed. But honestly, he didn’t actually fall asleep until the 6th time putting him to bed when his dad went in there to talk to him instead of me. His dad didnt do anything differently, maybe it was the simple repetition of it or maybe he needed someone other than me (because i give with hime a lot 😅) to reinforce it, who knows
It sucks and its hard but you simply can’t give into their demands, especially if its just not doable. Good luck! Hope it gets better!

I’m not speaking from experience, but I’ll be there very soon. Can you alter her bedtime routine a bit to get her involved with the baby’s routine? Just an idea, I’m sure the behavior is coming from a feeling of not being the center of everything anymore, even if you are doing everything perfectly.

Mine has been doing this for a few months. I don't know if he suddenly became afraid of the dark or what but I fell for it and stayed till he fell asleep for a few weeks and I got so fed up with it every single night that I had to start telling him I had to pee and I'd be back and I'd go down stairs and not come back. And he finally realized that he was fine to go to bed alone
