Help with losing virginity

So, my boyfriend and I just attempted our first time having sex. I’m going to give a brief rundown first.

He tried to put his fingers inside but only got them so far before I became a bit overwhelmed. It wasn’t the pain being too much but just the whole situation. I decided that he should try putting his penis in. I lowered onto him but couldn’t even get the top in because it hurt so bad.

I’m thinking I need lube because I’ve never even put a tampon in, but any ideas. I’m kind of worried. Thanks!!!
