How to politely tell people NO?

So when I have the baby I would like to spend the first week afterwards together, just my partner and I getting to know our little girl and getting used to life post bump. I know a lot of people are going to want to come to our home and see her straight away (my partner has a pretty big family that we aren’t very close with and can be quite pushy). I want to tell them before hand that within that first week we don’t want any visitors, but I don’t know how to say it without sounding rude. That’s not my intention, I’ve just had such a difficult pregnancy I feel like we’ll need that time alone together to adjust to everything afterwards. Advise?

Maybe instead of telling them not to come early tell them that you are excited to have them meet baby on X date or week, so that you can have control over when they come over and they don't feel offended or like you don't want them there at all.

I’m having this issue with my FIL, he’s constantly sick and I don’t want to risk my baby getting sick so we’re saying no visitors period for the first month.. my husband has already said something, but he doesn’t seem to get it 🤦🏽‍♀️ it’s so frustrating cause he’s one to just show up at the door and I’m one to just not answer it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Don't ask them not to come - INFORM them they can't. Them explain why. They might be more understanding than you think.
Also, an ally might be useful. A strong family member that is on your side.

if you don't like the direct approach you could always see if they'd do a "meal train" for the second week or so when you're ready for visitors. they can sign up for a specific day to bring you a meal and they can visit for an hour and go home. that way you can kind of control the date they come over, you get a meal, and they get the visit after the first week. and if they ask why its not the first week just say it's reserved for your new family bonding time with the 3 of you.

I have the same situation. We want time to bond with our new baby, and have siblings adjusting as well. I let both sides know, we will  call them after Baby is born and let them know when they can come visit. I explained why and they all understood. I was worried it would be an argument or someone’s feelings would get hurt, but just saying why helped.

Don't tell anyone you had the baby 😂.. I asked our immediate family to not announce on social media when the baby is born because we don't want guests right away.. However we are letting them (our parents and siblings) come over because they will also all be helping one way or another with our 3 other kids

My husband and I want to do the same thing! Just say “my husband and I agree, and would like to have the first week alone with the baby as a new family and bond since life is now completely different and we would like to figure out a routine without interruptions.” That’s what I said, especially since my husband only gets a week off of work. They should be understanding since baby is going to be around for a longgggg time, they can meet him/her later. If they have a problem or you’re too nervous, have your husband talk to them. Us moms shouldn’t have to say or do everything!
