Sleep Schedules for Babies 4-6 Months: Part Two
To create a schedule that works for you and your little one, it helps to divide the day in half. For this sample schedule, we will say that the day is 7 AM-7 PM and the night is 7 PM-7 AM. We are going to focus on a schedule for 7 AM to 7 PM and assume that baby is either sleeping through the night or you are in the process of sleep training. You can move this schedule forward or backward by an hour if you need to, but as a general rule we want our mornings to start between 6 and 8 AM and bedtime to be between 6 and 8 PM.
Sample Schedule for 4-6 Month Old
7:00 AM Wake up and have milk feeding
9:00-10:00 Nap (may run over by 15-30 minutes and if you have nowhere to be, that’s fine)
10:00 Wake up and have milk feeding
12:00-1:00 Nap (may run over by 15-30 minutes and if you have nowhere to be, that’s fine)
1:00 Wake up and have milk feeding
3:00-4:00 Nap (cut this one off at 4 as we want baby to be sufficiently tired by bedtime)
4:00 Wake up and have milk feeding
6:00 Bathtime
6:30 Final milk feed and storytime
7:00 PM Bedtime
As you start to introduce baby to solids, you can begin a breakfast/ lunch/ dinner solid food routine at 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 5:00 PM. These will only be small amounts at first, but by introducing the three meal a day routine early, you make phasing out bottles easier later on.
