She wanted out and nothing was going to stop her!

I’m finally ready to share my crazy birth story. If you haven’t yet given birth I would consider holding off reading this lol since it was a bit crazy.

Wednesday, October 17th I had a gynaecologist appointment, she didn’t like what she saw on 34 week ultrasound since my amniotic fluid was low. She told me the hospital would call be to schedule an appointment on Monday to check my fluid levels again. I was pretty worried not really knowing what to expect or what would happen. That night I decided I should pass on my workout since I didn’t want to cause any bigger problems. Went to bed that night feeling fine. Thursday morning at 3:40am I woke up and really needed to pee. Didn’t feel like getting up so I turned over to go back to sleep and felt a pop and then a little wet. Thought I peed my self a bit so I hurried and got up and waddled to the bathroom as quick as I could. Sat down and my underwear was soaked and then woooosh! A giant gush and my heart just sunk. I tried yelling my husbands name to wake him up but he didn’t hear me. So stuffed toilet paper under me waddled over to nudge him. He called our doula but with no response we decided to go to the hospital since I was only 35+2. They swabbed and tested the fluid to make sure it indeed was amniotic fluid while monitoring me. At this point I hadn’t really had any contractions at all and my cervix was completely closed. Had a cramp once or twice but nothing more. About an hour later my contractions were starting, and they decided they were going to fly me to a hospital in Edmonton. (I live in a small northern community in northern Alberta, Canada. The closest city is Edmonton and that’s a 5 hour drive.) They gave me morphine to try and slow down the contractions so I could make the flight. Also gave me an IV with tons of fluid and steroid shots to mature her lungs. Finally the paramedics arrived to transport me. Got onto a stretchers and into the ambulance to the airport we went. Onto a plane (air ambulance) and thankfully the weight restriction was high enough that they let my husband on the flight as well. It was about a 50 minute flight to Edmonton. About 20 minutes left into the flight my contractions were so intense I could barley breath through them. The paramedics started at to worry since they were getting pretty regular and were about 1 minute apart. At this point it’s all real blurry and I don’t remember much besides what my husband had told me. Apparently I was begging for some sort of pain relief which they denied me since they didn’t have anything to give me and I was saying I needed to push. They kept checking me and telling me I was fine and wasn’t crowning while getting ready just in case they needed to deliver the baby in the air. We finally landed at the airport and they transferred me to another ambulance where they gave me laughing gas (seriously was the best thing in the world). They put my husband in the front so they had extra hands in the back in case they needed to deliver. They decided to take me to a different hospital that was a little closer and hopefully traffic wouldn’t be as bad (I mean it was a Thursday morning around 8-8:30am in rush-hour traffic. Contractions were getting closer and closer and i kept asking to push and they kept saying not too and that she wasn’t crowning so I was fine. I seriously thought I was being such a baby and that I was still hours away from delivering. Contractions were 30 seconds apart by the time we got to the hospital. They rushed me through emergency and to a room to assess me. They transferred me to another bed and then moved me to a delivery room right away. I didn’t even had a chance to get onto a delivery bed. The OB got to the room and told me I could start pushing while she got ready. My cervix was at a +1. She was on the bed with me, my husband holding one leg and a nurse holding the other. Apparently like 12 different drs in the room as well waiting to see if my girl would need any of them. Within 7-9 pushes my beautiful baby girl was born. Emersyn Olivia was born October 18th at 9:59am at 6lbs 10oz and 20 inches long. A big, swollen, strong girl for 5 weeks early. While doing an hour of skin to skin I got stitched up but wouldn’t stop bleeding. Ended up needing a catheter and some meds to help stop the bleeding. My little Emmie got transferred to the NICU to get assessed and be put on an IV. She had pretty bad jaundice and needed phototherapy, and had a few breathing episodes but all in all was a healthy little girl. She stayed in the NICU for one week. We are so lucky! I can’t believe she is going to be 3 months tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures of my little bug 💗
