Pros and cons of the ParaGard/copper IUD?

I am 18 years old and looking at birth control options that do not involve hormones. I want to be sexually responsible and safe before going to college but I don’t want any hormones messing up my body. How are copper IUDs? What are the pros and cons?

I’ve had it for almost 2 years now. No issues other than heavier (but usually shorter) periods. My cramps aren’t any worse though.

I had it for 4 almost 5 years and had no issues the only thing is it did make my period a little heavier and I think my cramps were a little worse. Overall I think it’s a good choice for someone that doesn’t want the hormones.
