So I have my first baby on the way but I was a preschool teacher for three years. I had kids ages 2-3. In the fall they would be 2 and by that next fall they were three. After teaching them how to use a spoon to eat and teaching them words and working with there communication skills (about 8 months into the school year around March) we started potty training. I had 12 in my class with a teacher aid. I worked with three children at a time until every child in my class was potty trained. All three and I went to the potty every thirty minutes for a whole week. If they had a dry diaper they got words of affirmation. If they had a dry diaper and potty in the toilet they got like three skittles. The next week we went to the potty every hour. If they told me they needed to potty they got a sucker. Every single child in my class was potty trained by the end of week two. We stopped going to my classroom potty and started going to the “big people potty” within 8/9 weeks. I never changed a diaper after that. I don’t mean to brag but parents requested me 😂😂 it’s crazy what positive reinforcement can do!

I’ve started now. My daughter is 14 months. She already understands the words “poo-poo” and “pee-pee”... because I’ve always, always said “Did you pee-pee?” “Did you, you poo-poo? You stinky baby (lol)” and she knows exactly which is which because of that repetitive nature from me. 
She grabs at her diaper and says “poo-poo” when she poops to let me know she went. 
I’d say start of with the verbiage so baby recognizes what it is. Be consistent in saying it each time they go in the diaper.   I’ve done it so much that I can place her on the potty and say “go pee-pee or go poo-poo” and even if she doesn’t have to go, because she knows what I’m saying, she will actually make pushing sounds trying to get something out, even if it’s just a fart.
Finding a potty that would encourage them to go is important. For us, it’s an Elmo potty. My daughter is obsessed with Elmo... everything is all about him. So she is always excited to sit on it and her his “hooray!!” after she “flushes”. 
Also, be sure that when you wake baby in the morning, even if the diaper is full and needs to be changed... have them sit on the potty to see if they will go for that morning pee. 
Another thing is, when I catch her making her sounds of pooping... you know, how babies do... there are times I say, “Are you going poo-poo? Ok let’s go sit on the Elmo potty. Let’s go poo-poo on the potty” 
-Although use this at your judgement as you may not find it fair or comfortable to pick your baby up in the moment in which they are trying to relieve themselves. (I don’t do it every time)
Another useful tip I suggest is, go when they go!! In the mornings, we sit across from each other. She sits on her potty and I say “Autumn go pee-pee in your potty and mommy is going to go pee-pee in this potty” ... I feel it makes her feel like a big person and it’s like bonding in a way and she sees mommy does it too so it’s okay. 
And always make it a huge deal when they do go in the potty! “YAY baby!!! You did it!! You’re such a big girl/boy!!! Wow you are such a fast learner, you’re so smart!!” And I clap my hands and she does too.

I started introducing the idea to our son between 1.5-2 years and then he was fully trained by 3 years. Now at 9 years old I’m trying to get him to pay attention with his aim 🙄

One month before turning 2. I read the book oh crap potty training and that's the method I did and it worked. She's been fully potty trained for a year now. We did both day and night potty training at the same time , got rid of the diapers and never used them again.

I’m starting with introducing the potty at 18 months just by putting it in the bathroom and letting her get used to it and be interested in it. By 20 months I’m starting I’m not changing diapers all the time after 24 months. I don’t think it’s “forcing” in other countries where supplies are limited most kids are trained by 18 months. If a kid can talk back to you they are old enough to sit on a toilet 🤷🏻‍♀️ When I nannied, the little girl was 2 and asking me to change her diapers... her mom refused to let me work with her on the potty and because of it she’s 3 and still shitting herself a couple times a week.  My mom had me day trained trained at 18 months completely out of overnights by 24 months, but she started when I was 14 months old lol

Were potty training my boyfriends daughter she's about to be 4 and we made her a potty chart. Everytime she goes potty she gets a sticker and she gets prizes when she reaches certain goals. And she's pretty good about it all.

I normally start around 2 if your kiddo seems interested and you’re not forcing it. I always used the 15 minute rule when you’re home and when they poo in their pull up taking them to the bathroom and putting it in the potty to show them that’s where it’s supposed to go. Overall it’s just one of the wonderful parenting patiences you learn. Both you and babe have to be ready or it doesn’t go the smoothest. Good luck though!
