Smokers Holding Baby?

So I'm in a bit of a pickle.... basically my husbands whole family are smokers and they are wanting to visit the baby after hes born. I'm super hesitant and wanting v them to hold the baby cause I dont want him to smell like smoke or get any bad side effects. Will you let people who smoke visit baby and hold them?

Nope.  Not if they smell like smoke.  If they come in clean clothes and wash their hands then sure

My doctor suggested if anyone smoke tell them bring extra clothes where they can put on before holding baby.

My mother in law is a smoker and she smokes in her home (obviously not around us or the kids, she’ll go outside). And at this point I’m not worried about it. Both my nephews turned out great. To me it’s not really a big deal. As long as you aren’t smoking around the baby then we are fine.

Not if I can smell the smoke. Sadly, her father smokes but he knows the rules about washing/sanitizing his hands and keeping the smell out of his clothes. I’m an ex-smoker and I don’t want that nasty smell anywhere near my baby!! It chokes me out, imagine what it’d do to a little baby.

I had this problem with my in-laws when I gave birth to my son a couple years ago.  I actually asked my pediatrician if someone smelling like tobacco is harmful and he told me it isn’t.  From my experience the best way to make it less awkward is to always make everyone wash their hands before holding baby and to not allow kissing.  We had the hand washing down back then, but we’re going to have to do a better job of catching people going in for kisses.  🤦🏻‍♀️.  It’s crazy how many people think it’s acceptable to kiss your baby’s face.

Honestly you’d think people that smoke would have the common sense to not smoke before visiting babies 🙍🏽‍♀️ my MIL smokes too, she’s trying to quit before March, but she knows she won’t be able to be hold my baby if she smokes anytime before or without properly cleaning herself

I had this problem with my first. We made them wash their hands and wear a sweater we kept at our place when they held her. They aren’t in the picture anymore so don’t have yo worry about unit this time

No. My husband’s family is similar. They smoke. I told my husband to tell them that they can’t see the baby if they’ve been smoking. I don’t want her exposed to it either
