Have you ever put a cloth insert into a disposable diaper?

I used up my last shell before the ones I’d just washed were dry. I keep a few disposables on hand for just this scenario, but I’ve never done a disposable for bed. LO is 10 months & typically doesn’t get a night change. I was worried about 1. Leaks since I use a double insert usually & 2. LOs skin is pretty sensitive & tends to get diaper rash if we use disposables for an extended time (traveling) & i was worried about all night.

My thought was to stick a liner in the disposable & use it more like a shell... I didn’t end up doing it, but was curious if anyone had & how it worked out ?

Ps slathered his bum up with butt cream so hopefully it’ll be ok 👍.
